spring fruits and vegetables

The arrival of spring is for many people the best time of the year. Its light, colour and pleasant temperatures mean that we can enjoy more of the good weather outdoors.

But spring is also the time of year when most trees and plants are in bloom, which, together with the temperatures, means that we can enjoy a wide variety of fruit and vegetables.

We will now take a look at all the benefits they can bring us.

What are the benefits of spring fruits and vegetables?

If the fruit and vegetables that we can find in our supermarkets stand out for anything, it is, apart from their flavour, for the vitamins, fibre, water and carotenes that they provide our organism with.

  • Enjoy the best seasonal fruit:

If we focus on the various fruits typical of these months, for example, products such as peaches or loquats are foods that help produce retinol, the active form of Vitamin A, which is beneficial for preparing and protecting our skin for the coming summer.

On the other hand, fruits such as apricots are rich in vitamin C, B1, B2 and B6, as well as minerals such as potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, sulphur, chlorine, manganese, copper and iron.

Spring is also a time when red fruits are in abundance. For example, cherries are antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, as well as being rich in vitamins C and E. On the other hand, they have diuretic benefits and are one of the best foods for helping to eliminate toxins from the body.

Finally, fruits such as pears can help us maintain our daily hydration levels due to their high water content. They also contain vitamins B, C and K, which help to protect our bones.

  • Vegetables full of health benefits:

As with fruit, during the spring we can find a wide variety of vegetables that are typical of these months, so there is no excuse for vegetables not to be part of our diet.

For example, as we told you in our blog a few weeks ago, during spring we find asparagus at its best. A light vegetable, but with a high nutritional load full of fibre, potassium and vitamin A.

Of course, if we are talking about vegetables and spring, we cannot overlook courgettes, rich in antioxidant vitamins such as vitamin C, and in B complex vitamins, among which folates stand out. As for their minerals, we find potassium, phosphorus, magnesium and calcium.

One option that we should always keep in mind for those days when spring temperatures are almost approaching summer temperatures are cucumbers, due to the proportion of water in their composition, a very interesting vegetable from the point of view of our hydration and without adding practically any calories to our body. In addition, cucumbers are a very good source of fibre and vitamin B.

Finally, we cannot forget to mention the carrot, both for being one of the products with the highest vitamin A content and for the natural protection it offers our skin and our vision from exposure to the sun's rays, making it an ideal food for these months when we are enjoying more and more hours of sunshine.
